As soon as The Dark Knight struck box office gold during its opening weekend, the inevitable talk about the next movie in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise began.
Which villains will invade Gotham in the future, and more importantly, who will play them? Perhaps Johnny Depp as The Riddler? Or Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin? Or... Cher as Catwoman?
Wait a second. Saaaayyyy whaaaaat? Cher as Catwoman?!? No disrespect, but her name would have never crossed my mind as a fitting actress to play the ferocious feline. Angelina Jolie? Yes. Cher? Um, no. In fact, if I were a cat, I think I would be downright offended.
I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who haven't yet seen The Dark Knight (and judging from ticket sales, I'd say there's approximately five of you left out there), so I will instead link to an article that offers up another plausible choice for Catwoman, should this character even be written into the next film, which is a big assumption in and of itself.
My take on all of this "Dark Knight sequel" speculation is that it's just that... speculation. I'm sure Mr. Nolan is taking some much-needed time off from directing in order to learn how to swim through the huge piles of money that are being delivered in truckloads to his door as you read this. Let's give the man a break, shall we? And in the meantime, we can all breathe a sigh of relief that the Cher rumors appear to be untrue.
Tell your pet cat that she can calm down now.
